London Marathon 2023

After Event Update

Thank you to all our family, friends, neighbours, running pals and customers for all your sponsorship to enable us to take part in the 2023 London Marathon. We raised over £3395 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

The 16 weeks prior involved gym work, running club sessions, core workouts and long weekend runs culminating in our victory lap of 26.2 miles around the streets of London.

This was an exceptionally well organised event thanks to a massive team of 6,000 cheery volunteers. They managed to get over 47,000 runners over the start line in their allocated pens EXACTLY on time.  The atmosphere, spectator support, entertainment and music along the whole route and other inspirational runners was amazing, some running barefoot, in costume, carrying a fridge and more. The drizzly weather suited us, it was not too hot. John finished in a time of 4:13:19 and Micki’s time was 6:06:05 but more importantly we both crossed the finish line uninjured and earned our medal and t-shirt, and are now recovering well and looking forward to our next challenge.

If anyone gets the opportunity to run in London then grab it. You won’t regret it. If we can, anyone can. Would we do it again? Of course. We have already entered the ballot for 2024.

Our sweepstake created a lot of interest with around 70 entries.  The winners received a cash prize with runners up winning chocolates and ice cream.  See our Facebook for more details

On 23 April John and Micki will be running their first marathon, the London Marathon, and raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.   We are nervous and excited at the same time.  This will be our biggest running challenge to date.   Training has started.  Fingers crossed we make it to the finish line.

We are raising money for this charity in memory of both Mairi Semple and Rachel Clifford, two young ladies taken far too young.

GUESS OUR FINISH TIMES and win £100

Please donate £5 per entry (one guess for each of us) and support Teenage Cancer Trust. Payment made in CASH or through Paypal account mickih@btinternet.com / 07759 047871. Please choose Friends and Family to avoid charges and add your guesses in the comments box. For Bank Transfers please email or text and I will send you details.

The time you pick should be x hours, x minutes and x seconds. No duplicate times, so if your guessed time has already been taken, you will be allocated the nearest available time.

The entrants who guess closest to our finishing times will each win £100. The remaining funds will be donated to Teenage Cancer Trust. 2nd and 3rd closest guesses will win some homemade chocolates and ice cream (ice cream only if you are local).

In the event of the finish time falling equally between two guesses the winner will be the lower of the two guesses.

The finish times will be the chip time as recorded by the official timing of the marathon. Follow our social media accounts and website for updates and results or follow TCS London Marathon’s official app for live tracker/results.

The sweepstake closes on 20 April 2023. The race is on 23 April 2023. All guesses will be posted online (thorntonhallicecream.co.uk) and on Facebook before the race. The winners will be notified within 7 days.

In the (hopefully unlikely) event of a DNS/DNF all names will be put into a hat and winners drawn at random.

Enter as many times as you like.
